Why Argue

One of the weirdest things happened just about today: Zelensky, during his visit to America, had what seemed like a very heated argument with Donald Trump and J.D. Vance, eventually storming out in anger. This is the kind of shit you see in poorly written political dramas. As usual, the internet is completely divided on this—some supporting Zelensky and calling out Trump’s and Vance’s bullying, while others argue that Zelensky was indecent throughout the entire event.

Yet, what strikes me as the most interesting is the question: why is this happening in our particular day and age? If the answer is just "BECAUSE TRUMP," then it only raises more questions. Why does this get so much attention? Why is Trump at such a height of popularity?

These questions seem to lead to a broader answer: a resurgence of populism, or something similar to it. Maybe it’s time to focus our attention there.
